As the Chief Executive of the Better Regulations Executive I am directly responsibility for:
Delivering the Government’s Better Regulation agenda by:
• Delivering regulatory improvement for business, the public sector and citizens.
• Establishing a reputation as thought leaders, embodying the principles of better regulation and delivering innovative, radical regulatory change.
• Building the capacity of departments and regulators to deliver the better regulation agenda.
I became Chief Executive of the Better Regulatory Executive (BRE) in October 2005 and managed the transfer to the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform from the Cabinet Office in June 2007.
The BRE aims to implement the most extensive regulatory reform programme in the world. Its most recent action is to lead the introduction of regulatory budgets across Whitehall, persuading each government department to set a 25% reduction target.
Previous experiences include:
• Director, Active Communities Directorate, Home Office, with policy lead for the Government’s relationship with the third sector (Aug 04 - Oct 05).
• Head of the Productivity and Structural Reform Team, HMT (March 03 – Aug 04), where one of the projects he instigated was the Hampton Review.
